One World, Many Stories - Summer Reading 2011
Online registration starts Sunday, May 15!
You do not want to miss Summer Reading in the Children's Dept. this year! Our theme is "One World, Many Stories" and will begin on Tuesday, June 7 at 10:30 am and run through Tuesday, July 26 at 10:30 am for kids in pre-school through 5th grade.
Summer reading is a great way to help preschoolers learn early literacy skills, school age children and teens avoid the "summer slide" and for adults to model the joy of reading to their children.
Our emphasis is to:
Motivate children to read or be read to
Develop positive attitudes about reading
Enable children to maintain and improve their reading skills
Encourage children to read for pleasure during the summer
More information will be coming soon! In the meantime, check the online calendar to see the great events we have planned for your child beginning in June!
Have a great summer!

Custom Background Images in Gmail
For a while now Gmail users have had almost 40 pre-made themes to choose from in order to color up their inbox a bit, as well as a "Choose Your Own Theme" option that allows users to custom-color their background and text.
Finally, Gmail has made available the option to upload a custom background image, such as a picture from your camera, to decorate your inbox.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to use Gmail's new option:
1.) In the top right corner of your inbox click the "gear" icon to the right of your
name.
2.) Click "Mail Settings"
3.) Click "Themes"
4.) Click "Create Your Own Theme"
5.) Click the top left corner of the "Create Your Own Theme" window,
which will open the "Main Background" drop-down menu.
6.) Near the bottom of the "Main Background" window, under "Background Image", click select.
7.) Now select the location of the file you want to upload and click "select"
8.) Your image should now be set as the background of your inbox.

Libraries are places for new beginnings. Whether you are getting your first library card, learning new computer skills or planning a trip, the library is the place where your story begins. Join our nation’s libraries and librarians in celebrating this National Library Week.
Every day, libraries across the country are helping people create their own unique stories. Whether it is by opening a book and exploring distant lands, or by learning how to use new technologies to find a job, people at our library are creating new stories for themselves.
